President John Dramani Mahama believes Thursday�s heavy downpour which nearly marred the beauty of Ghana�s 57th Independence Anniversary celebration was a sign of blessing and good things to befall the nation. �I want to believe that, this showers that God has brought down today are signal to us that He is continuing to bless Ghana...to the next level,� he said. The rains which started at 09:05 did not daunt President Mahama from lighting the perpetual flame; not even the rain was able to quench the fire after it was lit. Delivering his speech, President Mahama described this year�s celebration as the most eventful. Ascribing the downpour to the effects of climate change, the President noted that, �It has not been normal for rainstorms like this to happen at this time of the year, early in March.� He however impliedly slighted the Ghana Meteorological Services Department for their inability to forecast today�s rain early enough. �We must be better able to predict the weather. We did receive a storm warning from the meteor service but we received it this morning and a bit too late. So this means we must sharpen our ability to be able to predict how the climate and the weather is going to behave so that we can adapt to it,� he said. Nonetheless, he thanked dignitaries and members of the diplomatic corps, traditional and religious leaders as well as members of the general public who made it to the Black Star Square; defying the rain.
