2 Firemen Caged

TWO OFFICERS of the Makola branch of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in Accra are in police custody assisting the Tema Regional Police Command to investigate a case bordering on impersonation. The two, Justice Okai, 32-year-old Fire Service Station Officer and Solomon Afful, 28-year-old Fireman, are said to have presented themselves as Procurement Manager and Assistant Procurement Manager of Grace Petroleum Company, an oil company in Accra, respectively. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Turkson, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Tema Regional Police Command, confirmed the alleged crime and detention of the culprits to DAILY GUIDE when contacted. She said on February 18, 2014, at about 10:30 am, the two Fire Service personnel visited a printing company which had been printing coupons for Grace Petroleum, in Tema. Justice allegedly impersonated as the new Procurement Manager of Grace Petroleum while Solomon was the Assistant Procurement Manager. They were said to have gone to the company to collect 100 pieces of coupons amounting to GH150,000. Their objective, according to information, was that they were going to use the coupons to collect fuel from the companys fuel stations for onward sale. Management of the printing press suspected a fishy deal and quickly got in touch with the oil company which informed the Tema police, leading to the arrest of the culprits. Justice and Solomon were nabbed at the press while waiting to be issued with the coupons. They were said to have admitted committing the offence in their caution statements.
