About 150 members of the Landlords Association of Nsawam on Tuesday embarked on a demonstration in protest against what they perceive as a breach of promise on the part of the Government. Wearing red bands and hoisting placards, they staged a two-hour peaceful march from Ntoaso township to Akoffukrom near Nsawam. Briefing the Ghana News Agency, Mr. Goerge Forson, the spokesman for the Association said the government promised to compensate all affected persons whose lands and buildings were destroyed during the construction of the Dobro-Nsawam by-pass in 2008, but had failed to live up to the promise. He said the affected people were staying with friends and relatives, and had difficulties paying their children's school fees, while many of them had also passed away. Mr. Forson and some members of the Association later presented a petition to Mr Dompreh Amoako, Chief Executive of the Nsawam-Adoagyiri Municipality Assembly. Receiving the petition, Mr. Amoako said he would ensure that it was delivered to the appropriate authorities for attention, and thanked the Association for the peaceful nature of their demonstration. Superintendent of Police Akwasi Kankam Boadu, the Nsawam Municipal Police Commander told the GNA that the peaceful demonstration could be attributed to proper supervision provided by police personnel assigned for the event .
