Tattoo Designer Jailed 30 Years...

An Accra circuit court on Monday sentenced Kwame Asare, a tattoo designer to 30 years imprisonment for robbery contrary to sections 149 of Act 29/60. Kwame pleaded guilty to the offence and was convicted. Police Chief Superintendent Duuti Tuaruka told the court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that the complainant was a trader and lives at Teshie Tsuibleoo, a suburb of Accra, whilst the accused person resides at Kwame Nkrumah Circle. He said on March 14, at about 22:00 hours, the complainant who was going to church at GREDA Estate at Teshie, on reaching Teshie Fertilizer was attacked by the accused person who ordered her to surrender all her belongings. He said the complainant who had no option to run away cried for help but the accused person over powered her and snatched her handbag valued at GHc 20.00. The prosecution said the accused person also took away a mobile phone valued at GHc 100.00; two yards of cloth valued GHc 20.00 and cash totaling GHc39.00 and bolted. �The accused person who was not lucky, was arrested by passers-by who retrieved the items and handed him over to the police for investigation,� he added. Chief Superintendent Tuaruka said investigations revealed that the accused person normally hid at the spot, especially during in the night to terrorise people.
