2 Caged For Assaulting Teacher

THE GOASO Circuit Court has remanded two sisters for assaulting a female Class Three teacher at the Gambia No.2 D/A Primary School in the Asutifi North District of the Brong-Ahafo Region. The court, presided over by Osei Kwame Gyamfi, on Wednesday handed over the two-week remand term to Lydia Antwi, 24 and Beatrice Amponsah, 26, to re-appear before it on April 9, 2014. They have been charged with assault, conspiracy and offensive conduct. Yesterdays proceeding saw a fully-packed courtroom mostly teachers, who had abandoned a Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) general meeting to be in court in solidarity with their colleague teacher. It will be recalled that the suspects and their Class Six younger brother subjected the victim, Regina Pokuaa, 26, to severe beatings on Friday, March 21, 2014 during official hours. The suspects stripped the young teacher naked in the presence of her colleague teachers as well as the pupils and nearly damaged her right eye after they had dragged her on the floor and brutally assaulted her. The suspects claimed that the teacher had beaten their younger brother during a brawl a day before. Ms Pokuaa was hospitalized after the attack and currently undergoes regular medical treatment for the bruises she sustained in the attack. She told DAILY GUIDE that she felt so bad about the incident and wondered how she could go back and teach the same children who saw her nakedness.
