The Art Challenge, a fine art reality television series, the first of its kind in Ghana which aims at rejuvenating the Ghanaian dying art industry, has been launched, promising to keep the nations art industry alive at all times. Michael Thompson, Marketing Director of Media KolikoKids- creators of The Art Challenge, in a speech at the press launch of the new fine art reality television series on Friday in Accra, said at every stage of Ghanas development, art had played a significant role in the lives of many Ghanaians. Art is indeed everywhere and it transforms our lives yet in Ghana, this goes unnoticed, he bemoaned. For this, he said, The Art Challenge which seeks to celebrate Ghanas artistic history and aims at unearthing a new generation of creative talent and creating a new passion and awareness within the mainstream culture, was being launched. The show, he said, aims at creating a platform to revitalise the focus on art education within schools across the country and to renew the creative movement for Ghanaian youths. He said auditions for the show which is expected to be telecast on Ghana Television (GTV) starting from July, 2014, would go on for about a period of four months in Accra, beginning from this week. He indicated that a total number of 20 contestants would be chosen to participate in 13 different challenges over a 13-week period. He said interested participants should fall within the age range of 15 to 25 years. The Art Challenge, he said, would at the end of the 13-week period produce three finalists who would have to compete fiercely for the title of art master, a car as well as the option of a scholarship to either the prestigious Academy of Arts in Chicago Illnois, USA, or the London School of Arts as well do a formal exhibitions of their work in major cities like London, New York, Paris and Johannesburg.
