Takoradi Poly Withdraws Students For Falsified Grades

The Takoradi Polytechnic has withdrawn 69 first year students, for falsifying grades to obtain admission into the institution. The Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mrs. Sylvia Oppong-Mensah, told the Ghana News Agency in Takoradi on Thursday that only applicants who had between A! and C6 qualified for admission into the school. However, she said, those withdrawn falsified their grades when they applied for admission through the Polytechnics electronic admission system. The Registrar indicated that after the students were admitted into the school, the authorities verified the grades of all the applicants from the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC). She said the polytechnic initially realized 77 students had problems with their grades, but eight of them cleared themselves and 68 were withdrawn. Mrs. Oppong-Mensah entreated prospective applicants to obtain the required grades before applying for admission, and not allow themselves to be deceived by middlemen who claim they can help them get admission even though they do not qualify. I have heard stories by some students that they paid between GHc50 and GHc500 to middlemen to help them fill the e-voucher and managed to manipulate the results of the applicants to get the required grades, but we detected them after certification with WAEC, she said.
