Angry Youth Protest Transfer Of Police Commander

Some irate youth of Abura Dunkwaw, in the Asebu Kwamankese Dunkwaw District of the Central Region, are protesting the transfer of the districts Police Commander who they say is being unfairly transferred from the area. According to the youth, the sudden transfer of ASP Twum Barima who they hail as hardworking and instrumental in curbing violent crime in the area, was masterminded by the District Chief Executive Officer of Abura Asebu Kwamankese, William Attah Menz. The youth in a spirited demonstration over the weekend, blocked all roads leading to the residence of the District Police Commander chanting and burning tyres to disallow a vehicle from carting the belongings of the commander to his new destination. Not even the police reinforcement deployment force could help control the angry youth. The angry youth who spoke to Ultimate Radios Central Regional Correspondent Richard Kwadwo Nyarko, said the DCE had gained a penchant for causing the removal of public officers who he felt uncomfortable working with. He is the same person who masterminded the dismissal of the District Education Director. That has been his attitude. He did same with the District Coordinating Director, one I.K. Acheampong who was sacked. He did same with the District Finance Officer who was sacked. So who at all can he work with? an organizer of the protest fumed. The youth in the area have since vowed to oversee his immediate removal from office as they say they are also not ready to countenance his divisive behavior. If he says he cant work with the police commander, then we can also not work with him so he should leave. He has done nothing here. He is at loggerheads with the MP and the party Chairman here. The District Police Commander ASP Twum Barima, said he had petitioned the Police Transfer Board against the decision to transfer him albeit in vain. According to the embattled commander, his transfer was a contravention of the Constitutional Instrument which states explicitly that it is only the transfer board that can effect the transfer of senior police officers and not a Districts Chief Executive. Expressing his ordeal to Richard Kojo Nyarko, he lamented when my transfer letter came, I saw that I wasnt treated fairly so I petitioned the transfer board but it couldnt go through and they said I should go. So I decided to pack my things when the youth came and said they will not allow me to go because of the good work I have done here. They felt that I did not deserve such treatment. He also expressed disappointment in the Regional Police Commander who he faulted for listening to the DCE in clear disregard of standard practice of investigating and establishing claims made against a senior police officer of his stature.
