NHIA Boss Visits Biometric Registration Centres

Mr Sylvester Mensah, Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has, at the head of officials of the Authority, visited some Mutual Health registration centres, to assess challenges of the on-going biometric registration. The centres visited included the Kpeshie, La, Adenta, Ablekuma, Weija, Kasoa Mutual Health Centres, all in Accra. Mr Mensah, accompanied by Mr Edward Amissah-Nunoo, Deputy Chief Executive in Charge of Administration, Mr Oswel Mensah, Marketing Officer, Dr Gustav Cryickshank, Director Internal Audit and Mr Lawrence Amartey, Greater-Accra Regional Manager of the Scheme, advised the public not to rush to centres for new cards if their cards had not expired. There is no need to rush to join queues, because all old cards are still valid, and can be used at health centres he added. Mr Mensah, however, assured the public that more registration centres would be opened to help in the on-going registration exercise at the Mutual Health Centres. Briefing the media on his impression of the visit, Mr Mensah said, some people were rushing to the centres for the new cards, some even have cards that had not expired, resulting in congestion at various mutual health centres. He said the Authority would also bring in more equipment to help reduce the congestion at the centres, while the on-going education would be intensified to educate the public on the new registration process . With the issuing out of the biometric cards to subscribers there is no need to wait for three to six months before you acquire your cards, it will also help in addressing fraud relating to claims, he added. On the challenges confronting the on-going exercise, Mr Mensah noted that the NHIS was also facing technical network challenges, and that mobile teams have been set up to move around to provide assistance to districts which might have congestion at the centres. He assured subscribers that all concerns would be addressed to help in the smooth process of the exercise. The CEO asked the public to channel all complaints to the Authoritys call centers on 03027464447, and 05444464477 on both MTN and Vodafone
