5 Grabbed For Stealing Roofing Sheet Coils

FIVE PEOPLE have been apprehended by the Ejisu Police for allegedly stealing quantities of roofing sheet coils at Britak Steel Complex. Among the arrested people was Ernest Brefo, said to be a brother of the late managing director of the company, police said. The five suspects reportedly broke into the company�s premises at Ejisu Krapa near Kumasi on Monday afternoon. They allegedly loaded unknown quantities of roofing sheet coils in a waiting truck which was taken away to a different location. The suspects again loaded 14 more of the roofing steel coils in a different truck registered AW 1055-13, and were moving away when police popped up. The police are leaving no stone unturned to get to the bottom of the theft case which has generated huge public interest in Kumasi. Akwasi Brefo Marfo, a director and shareholder of Britak Steel Complex reported the theft to the police, leading to the arrest of the five people. He told newsmen that each of the roofing sheet coils was worth a staggering GH�20,000, noting that they were yet to determine the exact quantity stolen so far. According to him, when he got to the company�s premises on Monday he saw that the company had been locked up with different padlocks. Brefo Marfo noted further that he saw some unknown people manning the gates of the company, so he suspected something fishy. He said he did not confront the people but rather reported the case to the police who swiftly arrested the five people and impounded the truck loaded with the stolen items. When contacted, DSP Boakye Ansah, the Acting District Police Commander, Ejisu, confirmed that there was a theft case at Britak Steel Complex. He added that five people believed to be the brains behind the theft have been arrested by the police at Ejisu. The police capo however said the police had just begun investigations into the case so he could not give more details.
