The three women who were arrested by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police for the theft of a baby have been remanded into police custody by the Kumasi Circuit Court. They are to appear again on June 16. Comfort Adjei-Kyem, 57, a typist at the Kumasi Children�s Home; 59-year-old Grace Osei Afriyie, the owner of the Ayiwaah Maternity Home at New Suame, and Cecilia Annor, 44, a trader, are facing charges of human trafficking. Modus Annor was alleged to be in possession of a baby suspected not to be hers and that led the police to conduct an investigation which uncovered that the said baby boy had been stolen from the Ayiwaah Maternity Home at New Suame belonging to Osei Afriyie. The baby, which was a day-old at the time, was allegedly sold to Annor, through the facilitation of Adjei-Kyem, by Osei-Afriyie at GH�3,500. The Anti-Trafficking Unit arrested Osei Afriyie for the theft of the day-old baby. Further investigations led to the arrest of the other accused persons. Baby stolen from Ayiwaah Maternity Home In our story last Tuesday, our headline inadvertently said the baby had been stolen from the Kumasi Children�s Home. He had been stolen from the Ayiwaah Maternity Home and is currently in the custody of the Kumasi Children�s Home.
