Tema Mantse Commends Narh-Bita Institutions

The Paramount Chief of the Tema Traditional Area, Nii Adjei Kraku II, and a delegation from the traditional council, have undertaken a familiarisation visit to the Narh-Bita Institutions (college and hospital) in Tema. Dr Edward Narh, Medical Director of the hospital and President of the college, welcomed them to the facilities, stating that the visit was memorable and inspiring, acknowledging the friendly relations between the traditional landlord and Narh-Bita Institutions since the inception of the hospital 35 years ago in Tema. He led a team of his staff to take the distinguished visitors round the hospital and the college to acquaint themselves with work at the institutions. They had the opportunity to interact with management, the staff and students to appreciate the achievements and challenges of the hospital and the college. Dr Narh discussed the challenges facing the hospital. These include long delay of payment of expenses involved in managing the National Health Insurance clients. He said for over six months, the insurance scheme had not paid the hospital any money though they owed the facility over GH300,000. We were, therefore, compelled to borrow money, with high interest from the banks, for work in the hospital, he said. Dr Narh also complained of high cost of accommodation and appealed to the government to provide more affordable houses for the staff and workers in the Tema Metropolitan Area. Nii Kraku, who is also the President of the Tema Traditional Council, promised that at the least opportunity, he would let the government know the plight of workers in Tema. He also prayed for Gods blessing on Narh-Bita workers in particular and all workers in Tema. He thanked the chief and his people for the visit and promised that the Narh-Bita Institutions would continue to uphold the cordial relationship between traditional authorities and Narh-Bita. He also promised that the college would offer scholarships to needy, brilliant students from Manhean. Nii Kraku commended the Narh-Bita Institutions for their support and services to the people of Tema and its environs.
