Court Remands Porter For Defilement

A 38-year-old porter, who has been accused of defiling a 13-year old at Korle Wonko in Accra, was on Tuesday put before a Circuit Court in Accra. Charged with defilement, Stanley Darko aka Mantse, pleaded not guilty. The court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava remanded Darko into police custody to reappear on July 15. Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah, told the Court that the victim, a pupil, lives with her mother, who is the complainant at Korle Wonko, Accra. ASP Acquah said the accused person resides in the same area. According to the prosecutor, the victim runs errands for the accused person and on May 10, at about 2100 hours, Darko lured the victim to an uncompleted structure near the Wesley Methodist Church at Palladium, Accra and had sex with her. Prosecution said the victim�s mother searched everywhere for her child but to no avail. However, at about 2300 hours same day, the victim arrived home and when she was quizzed, she narrated her ordeal to her mother who also reported the incident to the Domestic Violence and Victim's Support Unit, Accra. The Police issued a medical form to the victim to enable her attend hospital for examination and treatment and Darko was later arrested.
