Security Beefed Up After 2 Cops Killed

Security has been stepped up in the East Mamprusi District of the Northern Region after two policemen were gunned down on Thursday. Northern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah, who visited the district on Friday to boost the morale of his men following the murder of two of them a day earlier, promised to assist them with the necessary logistics for their operations. He urged them to remain resolute and discharge their duties professionally in protecting lives and properties, despite the teething challenges. According to the police chief, his outfit was determined to unmask those behind the murder of the two policemen who were killed in the line of duty and bring them to book. Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, disclosed that the Police Service was gradually closing up on the perpetrators of the crime with the leads provided so far. Four persons, including two police officers, it would be recalled, last Thursday met their untimely death when they were attacked by unknown persons at Gbintri, a farming community in the district. Constables George Nico and Jacob Gagri were escorting a bullion van with registration number GT 6974 Z of the East Mamprusi Community Bank from the Gbintri market to Gambaga when the bandits descended on them. Iddrisu Fusheini, the driver of the vehicle and Joseph Sugri Tia, a chief cashier, were also killed in the attack, though the cash of the days transaction they were conveying to the banks headquarters at the district capital remained intact. The two fully loaded AK 47 assault rifles belonging to the cops had gotten missing at the scene of the incident when the rescue team arrived. Two of the victims being staff of the bank have since been buried while the cops are at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.
