Commission Summons Refugee Board Chairman

The Judgement Debt Commission on Monday said it had summoned the Chairman of Ghana Refugee Board to answer questions related to confiscation of properties belonging to one retired Warrant Officer Agyei Boadi. This was after Agyei Boadi petitioned the Commission over the confiscation of his properties which was handed over to Ghana Refugee Board, when he had travelled to seek medical treatment abroad. Mr Dometi Kofi Sorpkor, Counsel for the Commission said this at the Commissions sitting in Accra. Mr Samuel Amar Tackie, Deputy Chief Valuer at the Lands Commission, also appeared before the Commission in connection with the Agyei Boadis issue. He explained that the Lands Commission under the instruction of the Attorney Generals Department was made to carry out the valuation of Agyei Boadi properties in 2008, which included its rental value and came out with an amount of GH₵ 109,716. He said the Attorney General in 2011 instructed for another valuation of the same properties and the amount was reduced to GH₵ 92,373, as the rental value was asked to be excluded, per the directive given. Mr Tackie, however, failed to confirm whether the money had been paid to Agyei Boadi, saying the Attorney Generals department would be in the best position to do that. Mr Nesbit Emmanuel Akai, the Area Manager of the Ghana Commercial Bank at Accra High Street, also appeared before the Commission to confirm whether it was true that some premature retired police officers who received compensation had an account with the bank. He explained that the said account was opened in August 2005 purposely to receive the judgement debt with three signatories, but had been closed since December 2007.
