Forty Candidates Fail To Turn Up For Examination

Forty candidates out of 3,302 candidates from 99 public and private junior high schools writing this years basic education certificate examination (BECE) in the Prestea/Huni Valley District were absent at the start of the examination. The candidates were made up of 1,397 are girls and 1,740 boys. Twenty-six candidates did not report at the Prestea Gold Fields School Complex and Bogoso Saint Augustine Senior High School hosting four centers and the Huni Valley Aboso SHS recorded 14 absentees. The District Deputy Director of Education, Mr. Samuel Broni, said this when the Member of Parliament for Prestea Huni/Valley, Mr. Francis Adu-Blay Koffie, the District Chief Executive, Mr. Robert Wisdom Cudjoe and educationists paid a visit to the six examination centers in the District. Mr. Broni said discipline on the part of both the students and their teachers had been exceptional as compared to 2012. He said last year many teachers were seen loitering around the examination centers but through education they had stayed in their schools. The Member of Parliament expressed worry as to why some candidates failed to attend classes after registering and said this might affect their grades. Mr. Koffie said he would meet Parent/Teachers Associations in the district and other stakeholders to find a solution to this annual problem of absenteeism.
