Nzema People Grateful To President Over Appointments

THE people of Nzema have hailed the appointment of Edith Hazel by President John Dramani Mahama as Ghanas Ambassador to Denmark. Speaking to The Finder in an interview, many admirers of the former Member of Parliament for the Evalue Gwira Constituency said they were happy that the President has offered the former MP the opportunity to serve the country in another capacity. Isaac Eshun, leader of the admirers, said he was confident the former minister would deliver to the satisfaction of the president and the entire citizenry. He explained that although Edith Hazel, a kingpin of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), did not play any major role in the administration of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, her new position as Ghanas Ambassador to Denmark would motivate the Nzema people to remain loyal and committed to the ruling party. In fact, it has sent a timely signal to the people of Nzema that, indeed, the President has not forgotten about us. He has demonstrated that he cares about the people of Nzema. Our loyal support to the party would remain intact because we have come to realise that whatever the President is doing, he cares about the people here, he submitted. Mr Eshun, however, appealed to the President to give Mr Lee Ocran, a former Minister of Education, a leadership position in government. He explained that although many Nzemas were currently holding key positions in government, sidelining the former Ambassador to South Africa would amount to ignoring the heartbeat of the party in the Nzema area. Lee Ocran is one of the NDC gurus here. He has contributed so much for the party. He deserves another chance in government. In fact, he has served in many capacities and would be willing to serve in the current government. I know it is the Presidents prerogative to hire and fire and I am, therefore, appealing to him to give Lee Ocran another chance. Meanwhile, the new Ambassador to Denmark, Edith Hazel, who was a former Deputy Minister during the era of former President Jerry John Rawlings, was the MP for Evalue Gwira Constituency between 2000 and 2004. She was beaten in the 2004 elections by the late Kojo Armah, an ardent member of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP). Interestingly, the seat eluded him in 2008, with the New Patriotic Partys Catherine Afeku capturing it. The one-term syndrome, which has always characterised the seat, played out in 2012, with the NDC candidate now occupying it
