Blind BECE Candidate Regains Sight A Day To End Of Examination

Lucy Kuuka, the 18-year-old student of the Fielmuo L/A Junior High School (JHS), regained her sight on Thursday, June 19, a day to the end of the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE). Lucy mysteriously got blind a day to the start of the examinations at Gwollu, in the Sissala West District of the Upper West Region. Lucy who lost her sight while trying to read her books, failed to regain it, after serious efforts by the family within the short period, to have their daughters sight restored, to enable her write the examinations Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on phone, Lucy said her predicament first started at home when she was reading her book in the night, and suddenly felt some pains in her eyes, like someone poured pepper in her eyes. She said she was quickly rushed to the church and they prayed for her and she regained her sight the next day, which enabled her to travel to Gwollu with her colleagues to go and write the examinations. However, she said when she arrived at Gwollu and in the evening she picked her book to read, she suddenly went blind again; this time it was not painful like the first time, but just that she could not see anything, she said. Lucy said she would not allow herself to be consumed by the situation but that she would go back to school to continue her education. Lucy, like her brother Felix Kuuka , suspected her condition could be spiritual, but could not name any suspects to that effect. She used the opportunity to thank all those who supported her with prayers and wished her well during her predicament. Mr Moses Dramani Luri, Sissala West District Chief (DCE) who visited Lucy and her family on Monday expressed happiness about her condition. He said even though Lucy could not write her examinations, but regaining her sight means there is still hope for her to continue her education. The DCE said he would have discussions with the family concerning Lucys future and how best he could be of assistance to them.
