A fatal shooting cast a shadow over the BET Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday where Pharrell Williams, Nicki Minaj and Lionel Richie led the winners.
Richie, 65, was honoured with a lifetime achievement award for his career in The Commodores and as a solo artist.
