Though many believe the punishment meted out to Ghana midfielder, Sulley Ali Muntari for his unprovoked attack on a Black Stars Management Committee Member was a bit harsh, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has stated it could have been worse. According to Kwesi Nyantakyi, the move by the GFA to penalize the AC Milan Star was timely as it instilled discipline in the entire playing body and also saving Sulley from facing criminal charges in Brazil. �� there was a request by the Hotel authorities to hand Sulley over to the police because it is a crime to attack someone in Brazil...he could have gone to jail and as a mitigation measure we had to stamp our authority by taking steps to ensure discipline in the team. ��if we had not done that we would have lost credibility because the Brazilian authorities were watching to see what we would do,� he said on NEAT 100.9 FM . Sulley Muntari was sacked from camp hours before Ghana�s final Group G match against Portugal in Brasilia for violent behaviour. The AC Milan midfielder attacked Moses Parker, a Ghana Football Association official and member of the Black Stars management committee without any provocation. He has been handed an indefinite suspension by the Ghana FA and that has put his international career in serious doubt. But in the view of the GFA President, the sentences handed Sulley Muntari is fair because it could have been worse.
