�Lion� Assures Of Security During Homowo

THE GREATER Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, popularly known as �Lion,� has stated that the people of the region, especially, the various Ga states will not need the services of the various security agencies to celebrate the Homowo festival as long as he remains the regional minister. He has, thus, charged the people to take him on should he fail to maintain peace and order during this year�s Homowo festival. Speaking to some newsmen on separate occasions when he was presenting some items to the various family heads at Nungua ahead of the Homowo festival on behalf of government and the Ledzokuku-Krowor municipality, the minister echoed that �We don�t need any policemen; we don�t need any security agency to come here and protect anybody.� Espousing the reason for his call, he said, �We are one people, we understand each other, and we love ourselves, so, I can assure you that it�s not going to happen again in Nungua, and I will make sure that every corner of the region is calm. I believe in decency, and I believe in security. I can assure you, you can take my words.� According to him, the weeklong programme will be incident-free and that he has teamed up with the municipality to hold discussions with the various leaders in the community on the need to resolve the petty chieftaincy squabbles that have hindered the development in the community. He recounted the role he played in ensuring that peace prevailed in areas where there were chieftaincy disputes saying that, �When I was here about two years ago, I challenged the police when they were mobilizing themselves to go to Odododiodio, when the ban on noise making and drumming was being lifted, I told them we don�t need the police on the ground. �If they have anything to do they should put the police on standby and then take my words. Nothing will happen.� He added that �we did it without the police presence. We did it without any police protection it is not going to happen in Nungua, we don�t need them.� The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of LEKMA, Seth Badu Tawiah who is presiding over his first Homowo festival as an MCE said, this year�s celebration is geared towards fostering unity amongst the leaders in the town. �We are fostering for a unity among the elders and the youth. We are organizing this Homowo purposely so those people who are outside should come in so that people will know that really this is the year they have seen their brothers and sisters.� He cautioned that while going about enjoying the festival, they should be mindful of the fact that there are some unscrupulous people who may harbour different ideas to ensure that no one becomes a victim of any wrongdoing. Food items worth millions of Ghana cedis were presented to four clans, the paramount chief and the Nungua Wulomo, including physical cash of GH�20,000.00 and GH�500.00 respectively. Some of the items included gallons of oil, bags of maize, fish and bottles of schnapps as well as two bulls.
