Re-Appointment Of CEO Exonerates Us Korle-Bu Board Chairman

Board Chairman of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Mr Eddy Annan, says the reinstatement of dismissed acting CEO of the hospital, Rev Albert Okopti Botchwey, exonerates the Board from any wrong doing. Mr Eddy Anan said the image of the Board of Directors of the hospital was smeared in allegations of corruption and abuse of office in the wake of the removal of Rev Okpoti Botchwey. Mr Annan was speaking on Newsnight on Tuesday. Dr Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah, the new Minister of Health, suspended an earlier decision by his predecessor, Ms Sherry Ayttey to dismiss Rev. Albert Okpoti Botchwey as CEO of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. According to Dr Agyemang-Mensah, after being made Minister, wisdom demanded that he takes some time to study the situation [that led to Rev Okpoti Botchweys dismissal] before making any far-reaching decisions." The new Health Minister said these in a letter addressed to the Board Chairman, Eddy Annan, dated July 21, 2014. He [new Minister] actually exoneratedthe acting Chief Executive, the Board, and myself," Mr Eddy Annan remarked. Meanwhile, the Korle-Bu Board Chairman gave indications that an ongoing internal audit at the whole hospital is expected to put to rest reports and allegations of corruption at the countrys biggest health facility. He said so far audits have been completed at two departments of the hospital the Pharmacy Department and Human Resource Department. The Pharmacy Department of the hospital was thrown into chaos Tuesday as staff staged a protest against a directive by the Board for some of their colleagues to proceed on leave. But Mr Eddy Annan insists a directive by the Board asking four persons, including the Director of Pharmacy, to proceed on leave was in conformity to the rules regarding forensic audits. Forensic audit is done by the government, and we dont get involved at all. We only make available information to the company coming to do the audit and the people involved are supposed to leave their seat until the forensic audit is completed," he explained.
