Robber Killed In Police Shoot-Out

A suspected armed robber was shot dead during a shoot-out between five suspected robbers and the Police at Weija Friday. The other four suspects, who are yet to be identified, managed to escape. The five robbers had broken into a Guinness depot near the old police barrier at Weija, and following a distress call received by the police, a team of police persons arrived at the scene and the robbers engaged them in a shoot-out. The four made away with a sum of GH�2,500 after breaking into six offices at the depot. Briefing the media, the Accra Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Mr Paul Kontoma, said a police patrol team was dispatched to the scene upon receiving the distress call in the early hours of yesterday. �Upon their arrival, the suspected robbers engaged them in a shoot-out for a while,� he said. Suspect shot Mr Kontoma said while the four managed to escape, one of the suspects who was �behind a pack of crates of Guinness products continued to shoot at the police.� �He was shot while he was trying to scale over a wall and died instantly.� The police found a locally manufactured gun, a bunch of keys, a box of matches, a wrap of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp on the suspect. A search at the scene also led the police to retrieve two live cartridges and two empty shells. The body of the suspect, believed to be in his late twenties is yet to be identified. The body has been deposited at the Police Hospital morgue.
