Spio-Garbrah Really Excelled at His Vetting Titus Glover

The Minister designate for Trade and Industry, Dr Ekow Spio-Garbrah, was on Wednesday subjected to about six hours of questioning when he appeared before the Appointments Committee of Parliament. Dr Spio-Garbrah, who has been nominated by President John Mahama as Minister for Trade and Industry was showered with questions from both the minority and majority members of parliament. Dr Spio-Garbrahs appearance before the vetting committee has been described by many as the longest ever with most of the parliamentarians looking impressed after the session. Speaking in an interview on Citi FMs Eyewitness News, New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema East constituency and a member of the Parliamentary Appointments Committee (PAC), Titus Glover commended Dr. Spio Garbrah for his performance. I can say personally that he had really excelled he admitted. He was the only nominee to be brought before us by His Excellency the President, so we needed to grill him and get the stuff out of him and I can say that personally, he had really excelled. We asked him various questions ranging from the very sector he was going to serve, the industrial sector, the poultry sector, the rice industry, port preparation and the work of CEPS, and his personal CV, he said. One part of the vetting which became very interesting is Dr Spio-Garbrahs response to his Team B description of former President John Evans Atta Mills' (late) appointees in 2009. According to him, he never described the appointees as Team B. He said he was only conveying public sentiments about the NDC government under the leadership of Prof Mills (late), adding I was reporting on what I have heard on radio about some members referring to ministers as Team A and Team B. Analysing Dr Spios answer, Titus Glover said it was difficult for him to answer the Team B question but he ate his humble pie and apologized. Looking at his background and his experience, it is sufficed for us to agree that he is a good material and that he can serve this country. All that we need to do is to wish him well. We are going to monitor himwe will look at everything that he has said and we will see what can come out from him he added.
