Woman Stabs Lover For Jilting Her

A 38 year-old woman, Gladys Osei, has stabbed her boyfriend, Elvis Amponsah, with a dagger after suspecting him of womanising and jilting her. Her defence was the numerous phone calls his boyfriend received from women, especially during odd hours. Gladys, who works with a security Agency in Accra, was arraigned before the Amasaman Circuit Court on July 10, charged with causing harm. She pleaded not guilty and was remanded into police custody for a week. The Presiding Judge, Mrs Barbara Tetteh-Charway, granted her a GHC5,000 bail with a surety on July 17. The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Kofi Annan, told the court that, Elvis Amponsah, a mason lives in the same room at Satellite near Kuntunse with Gladys. He said on June 27, 2014, at about 9:00pm, Gladys caught Elvis making a phone call to a lady, with their conversation centred on love. The prosecutor said Gladys confronted Elvis about the call but he ignored her. She became anger, pulled a dagger from her back pocket and stabbed Elvis on his shoulder. The prosecutor said Elvis attempted to run away, but Gladys chased him and stabbed him again on the back and he fell and started bleeding profusely, while he shouted for help. The prosecutor said sympathisers went to rescue Elvis and rushed him to the Nsawam Government Hospital where he was admitted. He said the following day, at about 5:00am, some neighbours arrested Gladys and handed her over to the police.
