External Branches On Super Delegates Conference

Ladies and gentlemen of the press, good morning and welcome to the press conference of the External Branches of the New Patriotic Party. We take this opportunity to congratulate the General Secretary and his team for organizing a successful Super Delegates Conference. The elections have been very credible, and kudos to all members who contributed in making it a success. Ladies and gentlemen, lets use this opportunity to briefly throw more light on the activities of the External Branches. Per Article 8 of the NPP constitution External Branches are conferred special rights and responsibilities within the Party hierarchy. Each branch presented three super delegates for this election. As part of our activities, we contribute by providing logistical support as well as assisting in policy formulation. Therefore, External Branches are a critical part of our dear Party. Before we came down to cast our votes, most of the branches held internal elections for their members to decide their preferred candidate. For example, China voted 85.4%, Germany voted 99.6, and Belgium voted 100% for Nana Addo-Dunkwa Akufo Addo. Therefore, the super delegates from the External Branches voted in accordance with the wishes of their members who sent them and not in their individual capacities. In the same vein, the members of parliament and the constituency chairpersons also voted based on the wishes of their constituents. Deducing from this we can say that the results of yesterdays election is a true reflection of the wishes and aspirations of the masses of the party. Ladies and gentlemen, we would like to use this opportunity to commend Hon Joe Ghartey and Hon Osei Ameyaw for graciously acknowledging the wishes of the masses of our party by voluntarily withdrawing from the race. As much as we respect and recognise the constitutional rights of the other candidates to go for the October 18 elections, we humbly appeal to them to consider the larger picture, in the supreme interest of the Party and throw their weight behind the winner of the super delegates conference. We believe such a consideration will go a long way to foster party unity. However, if they do decide to pursue their constitutional rights, we wish them all the best. While making this passionate appeal to the other candidates, we are urging Nana Addo Dunkwa Akufo-Addo, the winner of the Super Delegates Conference to rein in on his supporters, to refrain from acts that may directly or indirectly antagonise the other candidates and their supporters. In addition, we encourage Nana Addo to open his doors to all other candidates by extending an olive branch so that we can form a united front to prosecute the 2016 general elections. Ghana needs an NPP Government but a united one God Bless Ghana, God Bless us all. Date: 01/09/2014 NPP China NPP France NPP Germany NPP Holland NPP Italy NPP Japan NPP Nigeria NPP USA
