Kweku Baako: I Feel Sad For Apraku

Many political pundits after the Super Delegates congress of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have asked the rest of the candidates contesting the flagbearership position to pull out of the race and in a voluntary spirit, back the two time flagbearer, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo. According to them, Akufo Addo should be declared the flagbearer since he had more than half of the total votes on Sunday during the Special delegates congress. Nana Akufo Addo, Alan Kyerematen, Osei Ameyaw, Addai Nimoh and Joe Ghartey are the five elected to contest the flagbearership position on October 18, 2014. However, Hon Joe Ghartey pulled out of the race leaving four candidates. Stephen Asamoah Boateng and Dr Konadu Apraku were the two who were evicted. Speaking to these issues, Editor-In-Chief of the 'New Crusading Guide' newspaper disagrees. Abdul Malik Kweku Baako says it is in the interest of the party and the winner to go through with the October 18 congress. Contributing to a panel discussion on Wednesday on PEACE FM flagship programme, Kokrokoo Kweku Baako asserted that for those calling on Alan Kyerematen to pull out - it is neither here nor there. According to him, even if Alan willingly decides to bows out, it is too late. If Alan exits it will be bad because it is too late. He could have exited from the beginning but at this point, it is too late. Its more of a casualty if he pulls out. The contest must go on, he said. Kweku Baako also commended the organisers of the just ended congress and described as inaccurate the claim that pockets of violence in some of the regions marred the entire congress. To a large extent the congress was peaceful and there is the need to praise the organisers. It was 90 to 95% peaceful. It will be unfair and inaccurate to say that the congress was marred by violence. As for Apraku, I felt sad for him; he has suffered so muchit is painful he was part of the last two. It is a tactful decision for Joe Ghartey to pull out willingly; a very wise one. Within a matter of 24hrs he made his own decision he added.
