Ill Win Tema West Seat

A 60-year-old freight forwarder and civil engineer, Isaac Robert Pobee, has vowed to wrestle the Tema West Constituency seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if retained as the chairman of the constituency. In an exclusive interview with Today, he hinted that his political carrier spans from 1992 when he was a special assistant to former presidential candidate of Peoples Heritage Party (PHP,) General Erskine. According to him, he later joined the NDC in 1995 and rose through the ranks to become the incumbent Tema West constituency chairman of the NDC. Explaining how the NDC was able to close the gap between them and the NPP under his leadership in 2012, he said he has learnt his lessons and would do everything possible in 2016 for the NDC to wrestle power back. One of the most effective campaigns that brought down the over 18,000 vote difference between the NDC and NPP took place under my tenure, he emphasised. Nana Benyin Pobee, as he is popularly known, has also commissioned a consultant to identify the social and community needs affecting the people. According to him, the findings saw unemployment as the greatest problem affecting the youth and a programme has been designed to tackle the issue holistically. Nana Pobee noted that the programme would be used to formalise the operations of some of their members, for easy monitoring and evaluation and register them with the Registrar Generals department. He further disclosed that the programme would be put into six categories such as building construction, drivers, mobile phone repairers, food vendors, traders and general merchants. According to him, the NDC lost the seat because they failed to listen to very simple intelligence advice. He however called on the delegates to consider the good things he has been doing in the constituency such as offering scholarships to students and vote massively to retain him.
