Our Choice Is Alan - NPP Grassroots

Members of the NPP seem divided over the will of Presidential hopeful, Alan Kyerematen's decision to contest the October 18th National Delegates Congress. Mr Kyerematen in a press statement on Wednesday sent a strong indication that he will not throw in the towel. Whilst some factions from the party have called on Alan Kyerematen to drop out of the race to make way for Nana Addo to go unopposed,... an interaction with NPP members at the grassroots level has revealed otherwise. These members at the grassroots level, mainly polling station officers and activists of the NPP are describing such calls as untenable, a call they say defeats the very foundations and principles upon which the party was formed. They also believe that pressure coming from some quarters of the party asking Mr Kyerematen to throw in the towel is completely unnecessary. Jackson Adu, an NPP polling station officer in the Brong Ahafo region explains that cutting down the number of nominees from 7 to 5 candidates, which was successfully done on Sunday with the selected 5 persons, namely Joe Ghartey, Alan Kyerematen, Nana Akuffo Addo, Addai Nimo, and Osei Ameyaw moving on to the next stage come October 18 is a step in the right direction for the party. Kwadwo Korankye, another NPP polling station officer in the Eastern region believes that Mr Kyerematen has what it takes to win the hearts and minds of a larger section of Ghanaians including floating voters due to his appealing personality. Alan Kyerematen's support in the NPP hinges on the warm reception from Polling station officers,... as it can be recalled that in 2007 he was the only candidate amongst the 17, who visited Polling station officers whilst campaigning. This was at a time when the grassroots operators had no stake in the electoral college. A polling station officer from Greater Accra says, after two failed attempts to win political power, according to Richard Asiedu, the NPP grassroots members are looking for a change in leadership as they cannot afford another 4 years in opposition. And this leadership he believes, can only be found in Alan Kyerematen.
