It's Sad60 Years After Independence Ghana Still Call On IMF for a Financial Bailout Nana Addo

Two-time presidential candidate of the opposition NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says it is sad for government to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to seek for a financial bailout. Nana Addos view was in response to government's agreement with the IMF over a possible bailout programme by November this year. Government announced in August it would pursue an IMF intervention to tackle economic problems which has left the citizenry in real hardship and the depreciating of the currency. However, speaking on A1 radio in Bolgatanga in the Upper East region, the NPP presidential hopeful admit that it is shame for the Mahama-led NDC government to consider such approach. It is a sad day in the countrys history because by now, nearly 60 years after independence and with all that we have been through and the corrective measures put in place by the Kufuor regime, you would think that we would be more and more self-reliant and depending on ourselves in the management of our national economy, he said. Adding that, Its unfortunate that we [Ghana] have gone into this. I believe strongly that if we have a government that care about some fundamental things, then we will prepare to do something about corruption. This government must determine to do those things that are necessary for the growth of our country. If you have a government that concern itself with these matterswe will not find ourselves in the situation we find ourselves today.
