Oquaye's Findings Bogus...No Committee Has Been Constituted To Investigate Okudzeto, Hammond Suspension

Kwabena Agyepong, General Secretary of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has pooh-poohed on the findings of the partys Constitutional Committee asking him to reinstate Messrs Fred Opare Hammond and Perry Okudzeto. The Constitutional Committee in a statement, asked Kwabena Agyapong to reinstate Fred Opare Hammond and Perry Okudzeto, Directors of Finance and Communications respectively, after it established in its LEGAL OPINION of the matter that the decision to ask the two to proceed on leave about a month ago, was "improper" and an "anomaly". The committee, Chaired by former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye, further asked the General Secretary to apologise to Fred Opare Hammond concerning an allegation he made on PEACE FM morning show Kokrokoo. But speaking to Joy News, the General Secretary described the directives as unacceptable. According to him, the party has not yet constituted the legal committee for them to even come up with such conclusions. He further added that no committee has been directed to investigate any matter bothering on the suspension of those two party officials. Reacting to Mr Agyepongs assertion, a clearly bemused Prof Mike Oquaye expressed shock at the GS comment that the Constitutional committee had not yet been formed, stressing that it is public knowledge that such a committee has been formed to look into the issue. Below is a statement signed by Kwabena Agyepong concerning the Constitutional and Legal Committee The attention of the National Headquarters of the NPP has been drawn to a report from the chairman of the Constitutional and Legal Committee making rounds in the media and wish to state emphatically as follows; 1.Neither the Steering Committee, National Executive Committee nor National Council has referred the matter at issue to the constitutional and legal committee. 2. In good faith and in accordance with Article 9B (5) of the NPP constitution, any report of any standing committee should duly be submitted to the Steering Committee for consideration. This was not the case. 3. Assuming without admitting that the matter was even referred to the constitutional and legal committee, they could only proffer an opinion for consideration. That opinion can only be advisory and not mandatory. 4. Publication of this unsolicited opinion on a purely administrative matter, is improper, an anomaly and a gross abuse of due process in our party. We urge all to disregard the said publication with all the contempt it deserves. ------SIGNED------- KWABENA AGYEI AGYEPONG GENERAL SECRETARY, NPP
