Unrepentant Bugri Naabu Threatens Delegates Again

The Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu has repeated his threats to prevent delegates in the area from voting for any other candidate but Nana Akufo-Addo at the October 18 delegates congress. This is barely a week after he retracted and apologized for making similar comments in an interview with Citi News. Mr. Bugri Naabu was widely condemned for making similar pronouncements on the Citi Eyewitness News, forcing him to backtrack saying he was merely joking in that interview. But in another interview with Citi News on Tuesday, Bugri Naabu said he simply cannot abandon a promise he made to ensure an overwhelming victory for Nana Addo. He says at the impending congress on October 18 he does not want the delegates to surprise him again. When I was going to be elected the constituency executives told me, we will vote for you and when we vote for you, go and vote for Nana. Therefore it was something like an agreement between me and my regional electoral people, so I am doing it, because I am honouring my promise. He insisted On the 18th I dont want any vote to go to any person apart from Nana Addo. The camp of flagbearer hopeful, Alan Kyeremanten expressed fears in an earlier interview with Citi News that Bugri Naabu could intimidate the delegates again from voting for their candidate. The Spokesperson for Alan Kyeremanteng, Nana Ohene Ntow, said Mr. Bugri Naabu should not be allowed to rule the party like his own property. These are people who have high level of leadership and they should not be allowed to do things and their own behest as if the party has no rule, as if it is their personal property. You operate within rule. You operate within the principles of the party and you do not do things just the way you want. There are four candidates vying to become the flagbearer for the NPP after Joe Ghartey bowed out. This leaves Nana Akufo-Addo, Francis Addai Nimoh, Alan Kyeremanteng and Kofi Osei Ameyaw in the race.
