The greenhouse gases that cause global warming reached record levels in the atmosphere in 2013, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The agency on Tuesday issued its latest Greenhouse Gas Bulletin ahead of a major United Nations climate change conference later this month. Global warming has been blamed on the concentration of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane and nitrous oxide in the atmosphere. According to the WMO report, in 2013 the concentration of carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas emitted through human activities, was 142 per cent higher than during the pre-industrial era in 1750.
