Fire Works At Steve Akweteys Campaign Launch Health, Education Fund Key On Agenda

In order to indicate his seriousness and commitment to resolving some pertinent issues bothering the people at the grass root, Comrade Stephen Akwetey, has launched an Education/Health Fund in Accra concurrently with an announcement of his decision to contest the chairmanship of the Greater Accra regional National Democratic Congress (NDC). It was an eye-saw at the Arts centre last Wednesday morning when his agenda was met with an enthusiastic party faithful who thronged the place to endorse his candidature for the race. Delegates chanted, cheered the comrade on and danced all through the programme even at the time Mr. Akwertey delivered his speech as if it was music for their soul. They told the New Crusading GUIDE that, it was the first time they were witnessing a contender in a race who has shown passion towards working to the benefit of all; even before he gets the nod. I believe the time has come when political parties ceased being monuments whose presence are only felt when there is an election but quickly goes to sleep after winning came, one electorate underscored. Stephen Akwertey signified in his address that Education was the only tool to bridging the gap between social injustice and prosperity for all but there have been many instances where supporters and activists of the NDC party have cried for support without getting any. He acknowledged that various scholarship programs have been instituted over the years to ensure the less privileged in society get access to education but admitted there were still a lot to be done. According to him, the scheme which would allow all the 34 constituencies in the Greater Accra region put forward intelligent but less privileged students from the Senior Secondary level to tertiary levels would operate directly through the structures of the party. On the health fund, Mr. Akwertey who doubles as a football administrator stated that the scheme would augment the National Health Scheme and also help reduce the pressure on the scheme which would further aid NDC party faithfuls to gain access to affordable health care at all times. The establishment of the Greater Accra Health fund is to simply add to the overwhelming efforts by this government to increase accessibility and affordability, he posited. Mr. Akwertey believes the people who put their lives on the line at elections should be given their proper recognition and place in the affairs of the party whether in power or in opposition. He made it clear that a board would ensure things are made more efficient to quicken the processes involved in securing the funds within a short space of two weeks. During the launch Mr. Akwertey put into the fund 1 million Ghana cedis as seed money and outlined sustainability moves as soliciting funds from all NDC leadership willing to donate into the fund.
