'Save Sinking Image Of Korle-Bu, KATH'

Health Minister, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang Mensah has tasked new boards of the nation�s leading health facilities- Korle Bu and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospitals- to take steps to plug revenue leakages in the system and make savings for the two institutions. The two hospitals have in recent times, been in the news for all the wrong reasons attracting negative publicity for both staff and management. In an attempt to salvage the image of the hospitals, the government has reconstituted the boards there. The governing board of the nation�s premier hospital, Korle Bu is chaired by a senior lecturer at GIMPA business school, Dr. Anthony Mawuli Sallar while that of Komfo Anokye is headed by Dr. Ken Sagoe, a former Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital. Speaking Tuesday at a ceremony to inaugurate the two boards, Dr. Agyemang Mensah charged the members to move away from the traditional means of generating revenue to fund operations of the institutions. �You are assuming office at a time the health sector is going through financial challenges which is the effect of the spillover of global financial crisis. You are, therefore, called upon to devise innovative ways of mobilizing financial resources to sustain and improve the performance of the sector�. He tasked the boards to �work diligently and selflessly to turn round the fortunes of your various organisations which will intern translate in the improvement of health service delivery in Ghana�. �It is also imperative that as board members you take steps to plug all the leakages in the system to avoid waste and make savings. Your vigilance and effective monitoring of agencies under your care will help achieve your objective," he stressed. Meanwhile, the new Korle-Bu board chairman Dr. Anthony Mawuli Sallar in an interview with Joy News� Seth Kwame Boateng assured, he will do his best to change the bad press that has bedevilled the institution in recent times. Dr. Sallar also said issues leading to internal wrangling at the hospital will be brought under control under his leadership. Dr. Ken Sagoe on his part also pledged to work with his team to restore the dented image of the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital.
