Birim Central Assembly Endorses Nkansah As MCE

The Birim Central Municipal Assembly has endorsed Mr Kwabena Nkansah � Asare, the immediate past Presiding Member of the assembly and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the 2012 general election, as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the municipality. The MCE, a retired Assistant Auditor �General of the Audit Service, who served on the United Nations Board of Auditors for 10 years, secured 100 per cent vote as all the 54 assembly members voted to endorse him. He has set a proud record of being the first MCE to secure 100 per cent endorsement in the municipality, which demonstrates his popularity in the area. The election, which was supervised by the Birim Central Director of the Electoral Commission, Mr John Appiah-Baffoe, attracted leading politicians from both sides of the political divide as well as chiefs and institutional leaders. Among the dignitaries present at the ceremony were the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Antwi Boasiako Sekyere, his deputy, Ms Mavis Ama Frimpong, the Members of Parliament for Akyem Oda and Asene-Manso-Akroso, Messrs William Agyapong Quaittoo and Yaw Owusu Boateng respectively. Others included the regent and Krontihene of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyereh and the Oda Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent James Sarfo-Peprah. In his address, Mr Boasiako Sekyere expressed gratitude to the assembly members for endorsing the President�s nominee to spearhead the progress of the municipality. He advised them to give Mr Nkansah-Asare their maximum support to ensure the success of his administration. Mr Antwi Boasiako urged Mr Nkansah-Asare to not discriminate in the discharge of his duties but should strive to mobilise all available human and material resources to accelerate the development of the municipality. Mr Nkansah-Asare thanked the Almighty God, President John Mahama, the national, regional and constituency executives of the NDC, the assembly members and the traditional rulers in the area for his nomination and endorsement. He promised an open administration devoid of partisan consideration, stressing that he would roll out policies and programmes which would benefit the assembly.
