Minister Tasks MMDCEs To Tap Into Other Opportunities

The northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Muniru Limuna has passionately cautioned Metropolitan Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to be innovative and tap into opportunities offered by development partners to improve the Better Ghana Agenda. At a meeting with a delegation from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and also attended by Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives and District Coordinating Directors of the region, Alhaji Limuna urged the MMDCs to look elsewhere for strategic partnership to develop the region instead of solely depending on government for subventions. He stressed that "the tax payers money can't do everything, so we should all use our lobbying skills and tape into opportunities." He revealed that the northern regional coordinating council is working to entice other development partners to craft a developing plane which would raise the status of the region. Alhaji Limuna reiterated that the Northern regional coordinating council always reaches out to strategic partners to implement programmes that would ensure the rapid development of the region, as well as improve the livelihood of most deprived communities in the region. Andy Karas, Deputy Mission Director, USAID Ghana on behalf of the delegation outlined the programme area of USAIN Ghana, which includes health, education and economy and said the organization helps in ensuring and strengthening democracy in government at national, regional and district authorities. He mentioned that USAID Ghana has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamale Metropolitan Assemble, West Gonja and Tolon District programme to implement resilience social intervention support. According to Mr Karas, the United States government has approved a five-year (2013-2017) plan to support health, agriculture, education and civil society in some selected communities. The Chief Executive of Tamale Metropolis, Mohammad Abdul Hanan Gundadow indicated that his outfit is working very hard with foreign donors to accomplish the Better Ghana Agenda and good living conditions for all citizenry in the Metropolis. He said through his lobbying skills countless number of abandon and new projects are at their finishing stage.
