The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jaster Motors Investments and Jerryson Fm over the weekend donated assorted items to the Sunyani Central Prisons.
The gesture which forms part of a GHc 100,000 package earmarked for corporate social responsibility of the two entities included; assorted drugs, toiletries, rice, sugar, gari, beans, sanitary pads and washing soap all valued at GH₵ 17,000 for the upkeep of both the male and female inmates.
According to him, he was emotionally moved the last time he visited the inmates and decided to extend his support to them pledging more support in the future.
He encouraged Ghanaians to accept ex-convicts back into society since their reintegration will go a long way to shape society and their contributions relevant despite what they might have gone through in the past.
The practice where persons convicted for various crimes were being stigmatized against he noted must he condemned indicating that it should be a thing of the past as such persons would have learnt their lessons and reformed.
He reiterated the fact that the inmates were just like any other person out there the need for the citizenry to support them materially and spiritually since it emerged that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility.
He hinted that, the services of two renowned lawyers will be sought to assist inmates who have been on remand for a longer time in order to review the merit of their case.
Mr. Asum disclosed that the donation to the Sunyani Central Prisons was part of GHc 100,000 package devoted by his outfit to support various projects captured under the company�s corporate social responsibility for the last quarter of this year.
He added that last week alone, about 2,000 less privileged residents in the Nkoranza municipality were enrolled onto the National Health Insurance Scheme at a total cost of GH₵ 15,000 to enable them enjoy quality healthcare.
This was followed by a cash donation of GH₵ 6,200 to the Regional Fire Station Sunyani to enable them purchase some essential equipments hinting that the gesture to these institutions is going to be a continuous process.
He however expressed hope that all the donations would be put to good use to the benefit of beneficiaries.
Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Director of the Ghana Prisons Service ACP Anthony Allotey who received the items on behalf of his boss commended Mr. Charles Asum for his generosity.
He appealed for more support for the inmates noting that there is a lot required by the service to better the lives of inmates who solely rely on government subvention
