The political future of Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, a leading flag-bearer contender of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), could suffer serious setbacks, as indications are that his handlers could just be leading him to the slaughter in the upcoming congress slated for October. A few weeks after pulling a disappointing turnout at the his campaign launch at Lapaz in Accra, Alan�s hope of leading the Elephant Family seems to be dwindling by the day, as most of his trusted supporters, on who he is banking his hopes at congress, are defecting en bloc. Alan began his campaign tour of the Northern Region with the hope to garner grassroots support to keep his ambitions alive, but information gathered by The Chronicle indicates that his campaign has widely been met with apathy, as many have already made up their minds on who leads the party into the 2016 elections. Sources close to the campaign team say the party�s executives in the region have been largely �uncooperative�. Alan managed four votes out of the 70 valid votes cast in the Northern Region at the just-ended Super Delegates Congress, with Nana Addo cruising with 62 of the votes in the region. Alan�s spokesperson, Nana Ohene Ntow, is on record to have stated that the performance of his candidate came as a big �surprise�, considering the assurances they received from the delegates ahead of the congress. �Particularly, I am a bit surprised at the result we have received from the Central and the Western regions, and also the two upper regions. Because the indication that most of the delegates gave is completely different from the results,� he said. �FEAR DELEGATES� MAKES MORE MEANING The now common mantra in Ghana�s politic, �fear delegates,� could now make more meaning to Mr. Alan Kyerematen, after most of his trusted supporters voted against him at the Super delegates Congress, after assuring him of their votes. Sources close to The Chronicle say Alan�s team now looks at even their most trusted delegates with suspicion, not knowing who is genuinely supporting their candidate, and who is only in to cash in on his campaign. It is an open secret that many of the delegates made Alan believe he had their votes at congress, only to disappoint him at the polls. MASS DEFECTIONS These setbacks notwithstanding, Alans� strongest support base has been hit with mass defections and open declaration for Nana Addo. Over the past week, Alan�s key supporters, including former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Tamale, Mohammed Amin Anta, and his colleague former MCE for Kintampo, Abdulai Razak, all declared total support for Akufo-Addo as the party�s best shot in the upcoming elections. A member of Alan�s campaign team, Philip Longdon, however, says the defections are part of schemes by their opponents to frustrate Alan�s campaign He also alleged that the defectors were being influenced by money from Nana�s camp. ��Our people are being made aware of what is going on; the monies that are changing hands, and the kind of inducement and enticement that are going on to get people to vote in a particular way, and people are seeing how they�ve been betrayed by certain leaders of the party,� Mr. Longdon told Citi FM, an Accra-based radio station. Nana Ohene Ntow would not comment on this development when The Chronicle contacted him on phone yesterday.
