Lotto Business Is Dying

Scores of lotto operators in the Accra metropolis have registered their disquiet about how their businesses have been taken over by different kinds of football betting centres. According to some lotto agents, their daily income has dropped drastically as a result of premier betting. The situation, the agents noted, was getting out of hand and therefore called for immediate intervention. According to them, their worry was the huge youth patronage of sports betting every weekend. Investigations conducted by Today revealed, for instance, how premier betting alone has overshadowed the traditional lotto business. In an interview with managers of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle branch of premier betting, they admitted how good the business was compared to lottery. But one betting agent name withheld however disagreed that betting had taken over from lottery. I dont think betting has taken over the lotto business as we all operate for money, he said. Others who also spoke to Today argued that the arrival of the betting has also given employment to many Ghanaian youth.
