Suspicious Number Plate Gives Murderer Away

The Tema Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service is holding a man, Francis Akpanya Sackey to assist with investigations into the murder of a 28-year old taxi driver, Edward Jojo Acquah. The body of the deceased was found at Tema New Town, near the public cemetery, with gunshot wounds. The Chronicle�s investigations revealed that Police Patrol team on snap check at the Kpone Barrier on the Tema-Aflao Highway in the morning of Wednesday, this week, intercepted a Honda Civic car with registration number GT 8733Q, fitted only to the front and driven by Sackey. This aroused the suspicion of the police and, therefore, decided to search the car. The search led to the discovery of one locally manufactured pistol, two live cartridges, one sharp knife, one BBL multimedia sub woofer system, one portable DVD player, two military camouflage shorts and two screw drivers. Upon interrogations, Sackey claimed that a friend of his, by name Brew, gave him the taxi to attend a funeral at Nkonya in the Volta Region. The driver was subsequently detained and the car impounded for further investigations. At about 7am the same day, police had information that a dead body had been found at Tema New Town at Bankuman, near the cemetery. When Police arrived at the scene and the body was searched, one driver license, a Data Link University and two Zenith Bank identity cards, bearing the name Edward Jojo Acquah, aged 28, were retrieved. Madam Anita Aklamanu, who described herself as landlady of the deceased, told the police that the deceased was the original driver of the Honda Civic taxi cab and that the original registration for the car is GE 3532 X. The Tema Regional CID source stated that further investigation is ongoing to establish who actually shot and killed the driver and the motive behind the killing.
