Kofi Jumah Lands In Court For Assault

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Asokwa in Kumasi, Kofi Jumah, has been charged with unlawfully causing harm to one Jamal Agha, who he accused of stealing his mobile phone. The ex-Kumasi Mayor would therefore be hauled to court on Tuesday, ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, the Ashanti Regional Police PRO, disclosed to DAILY GUIDE in an interview. Mr Jumah, a Minister in the Kufuor-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, was arrested by the police on Friday for allegedly leading a group of people to beat Jamal Agha in his house at Atonsu. ASP Tanko noted that after writing his statement at the police headquarters, the ex-Kumasi Mayor was granted bail by the police on Friday. According to him, the police charged Mr Jumah with unlawfully causing harm to Agha so he would report on Tuesday morning for court. Mr Jumah had been in the news lately over allegations that he bundled a man he accused of stealing his cell phone into his house at Atonsu where he led eight other people to beat him up. The police in Kumasi on Friday morning withdrew an invitation to Mr Jumah and proceeded to his house to arrest him after the ex-Minister reportedly confirmed on radio that he beat Agha. The police headquarters in Kumasi was on Friday invaded by a horde of NPP sympathisers, mainly from Asokwa, who thronged the place to offer support for the ex-Kumasi Mayor.
