Fragmented Nkrumaist Cant Win Power

The Underworld Nkrumaists, a pressure group within the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), has stated that it was impossible for any of the fragmented parties within the Nkrumaist family to win political power alone. The group said the only way for the CPP to reclaim power after more than 32 years in the wilderness was for all acclaimed Nkrumaists to come together and revamp the CPP, a project codenamed going back to our fathers house. Addressing a press conference in Kumasi yesterday (Friday), the Chairman of the Underworld Nkrumaists, Joshua Kweku Bentum, entreated the Council of Elders and the leadership of the CPP, PNC, GCPP and the PPP to establish with dispatch, a consultative committee to deliberate on the attainment of a strong and capable platform that will facilitate and accelerate the co-ordination of the project. The unity call, according to the group, was not for a merger but it was for Nkrumaists to shed off their fragmentary identities unconditionally and unite with a renewed spirit and message to build a formidable and attractive force, capable of electoral competition and victory. If successful, the flag bearer and the national executive of the re-branded CPP would be determined by Congress, which is the highest decision-making body. The Underworld Nkrumaists, formed in 1971 after the overthrow of the partys first flag bearer and Ghanas first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, blamed former president Jerry Rawlings and former Security capo, Kojo Tsikata, for the ignoble fragmentation when the country adopted multiparty democratic rule in 1992. The Chairman said a chunk of the current members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are Nkrumaists but stated that the NDC was not CPP and could not be party to the Nkrumaist family because their deeds were at variance with what Dr Nkrumah stood for. The group reckoned that much as some of the causes of the unattractiveness and non-credibility of the present day CPP may be beyond the partys control, there were others that could be addressed immediately. We have the fervent belief that the project of Nkrumaists getting back to the CPP is achievable, if only the leadership would do away with hyprocrisy, persona and ego, Mr Bentum said. He said the two main political parties, the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), have mismanaged the affairs of the nation because they were incompetent, lacked vision and have adopted adhoc measures of addressing the countrys problems. Among the plethora of allegations made by the group are, Ghanaian unemployment, weakened educational principles, apathy to national concerns, acute selfishness, deceit of all forms based on empty promises, misuse of national resources and misuse of the countrys natural resources. The Chairman said it was high time Ghana explored other natural resources apart from gold especially, salt and sugar since she stood a good chance of increasing her foreign exchange revenue through this venture.
