Injunction On Odododiodoo NDC Primaries Lifted

The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set for constituency elections in Odododiodoo after an aspiring constituency chairman withdrew a court action that had placed an injunction on the elections. Abraham Space Okoe Clottey had gone to court seeking reasons for his disqualification from contesting the elections and demanding his unconditional reinstatement. He, therefore, told the Daily Graphic ahead of the scheduled October 16 hearing date that he had withdrawn the case from court following the party's decision to reinstate his candidature in the constituency chairmanship race. "Upon persistent appeals and the fact that I have been reinstated in the contest, I decided to withdraw the case. After all, I was seeking justice, which has already been granted," he said. Indeed, a letter dated October 1, 2014 and signed by the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr Kobina Ade Coker, said " after careful deliberations, the region has decided to reinstate Mr Abraham Space Okoe Clottey. The letter, though addressed to the constituency chairman of the party and only copied to Mr Space Clottey, added: "We wish you good luck in your endeavours". The NDC primaries in the Odododiodoo constituency had been in limbo since last month when Mr Space Clottey sought the court's intervention over his disqualification from the race for the chairmanship after the vetting process. He had argued in his application to the court that "the contents of the said letter of disqualification are devoid of any reason(s)/ground(s) for my disqualification", and that "the outcome of the vetting process was exercised capriciously, arbitrarily and maliciously". He said, "I am aggrieved and dissatisfied with the outcome of the vetting process and have written an appeal to the regional chairman of the NDC seeking a reversal of the outcome of the vetting process," but expressed fear that he might not receive the appropriate redress before the elections were held. The case, filed on Friday, September 12, was to be heard on Thursday, October 16. Following his decision to withdraw the case from court, the doors are open for elections in the constituency as the NDC prepares for its national delegates conference later in the year.
