No matter who emerges the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday, the party is badly injured and will go into the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, as a limping organization on crutches. The sharp dichotomy lines between the ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor-led camp and Nana Akufo-Addo-led group, have been drawn and the signs are all over for those interested to see. Over the weekend, all roads led to the hometown of the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central in the Central Region, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, for the final funeral rites of his late father, but surprisingly known loyalists of ex-President Kufuor, were copiously missing at Assin Dompim. The late Teacher, Francis Ohene Kofi Agyapong�s funeral, was heavily attended by many bigwigs from the camp of the twice-defeated flagbearer of the largest opposition party. The funeral was like that of an Arabian King. About 10 expensive estate-like houses sprang up from nowhere in a suburb of the town. The houses, were fully-furnished with luxurious imported furniture. The landscaped was beautifully made with water fountain. It appears the absence of ex-President Kufuor and most of his men, including Kwadwo Mpiani, Richard Winfred Anane is because of the many unpleasant and unprovoked attacks on them by Kennedy Agyapong sometimes in the presence of Nana Addo, who has not for once reprimanded him, but rewarded him as one of his Campaign Coordinators. Alan Kyerematen, one of the aspirants in the Saturday�s flagbearer elections, also left the funeral ground for Nana Addo to bask in political atmosphere created by the funeral of the late Teacher Francis Ohene Kofi Agyapong. Also loudly absent, were NPP National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyei Agyapong; the two of them, have been victims of Kennedy Agyapong�s abusive prowess. Those who made it to the most lavish funeral ever held in Assin Dompim area were, Freddie Blay, the First Vice- Chairman, Stanley Adjiri Blankson, former Mayor of Accra, Bernard Antwi �Boasiako (Wontumi), the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Steven Ntim, failed National Chairman aspirant, Edward Boateng, owner of Global Media Alliance (GMA) and Samuel Awuku , the National Youth Organizer. The rest were; Nana Addo�s his running mate for the 2016 Presidential Election, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and his wife Samira Bawumia; John Boadu, the National Organizer and Charles Nii Teiko Tagoe, one of the communicators of NPP, Mr. Kwamina Bartels, former MP for Ablekuma North and Minister for Water Resource Works and Housing. Even though, it is a practice in the NPP that funerals of prominent members or their relatives are attended by very important people in the party, the boycott by ex-President Kufuor and his men, were so revealing, suggesting all is not well within the party, which once behaved like a secret cult, having closely guarded information. Information available to �The Herald�, corroborated by security personnel stationed at the Airport West residence of the ex-President, revealed that Mr. Kufuor has issued a strict directive to his security detail not to allow the loud-mouth MP into his residence. The source further told �The Herald� that Mr. Kufuor feels disrespected and angry about the verbal diarrhea of Kennedy Agaypong, whom his government showered multimillion dollar electrification contracts on, while circumventing procurement laws of the country. The Herald, is informed that the loudmouth MP tried to apologize to Mr. Kufuor, but the ex-president refused to accept his Olive Branch. He subsequently refused him access to his house. There are claims that in one instance, Ken Agyapong brought a big Ram from his Constituency to show how serious he was about the apology, but he was turned away. He was last Saturday, seen weeping bitterly and uncontrollably inside the Assin Fosu Roman Catholic Church for the loss of his beloved father. Rev. Emmanuel Quagrine officiated for the repose of Teacher Francis� soul. The Herald�s scouts could not see Mr. Agyapong�s sister, who owns the Hollywood Hotel at Madina Zongo Junction at the funeral.
