Ex-BoG Governor Escapes Death

A three-axle Man Diesel Togolese truck with registration number 8456 A1 in the early hours of last Sunday morning ran into the residence of Mr Kportufe Agama, the former governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), at Vume near Sogakofe in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region. The former BoGs governors property is close to the residence of former President Jerry John Rawlings, which is along the highway of Vume-Tefle. According to eyewitness accounts from the accident scene at Vume, the truck, carrying a heavy load of gallons of emulsion paint, was bound for Togo from Accra, and moving at a top speed, the driver lost control of the steering wheel after his left front tyre burst. The eyewitnesses said the truck speedily veered off its lane, thereby smashing part of the fence wall and some adjourning rooms of the property of Mr Kportufe Agama. The drivers side of the vehicle was badly damaged too. Some of the gallons of the emulsion paint spilled on the asphalt road; so to save the lives of other unsuspecting drivers, some residents went ahead to caution drivers to slow down as they get closer to the accident scene where the paints had spilled on the road. There were a few residents in the house at the time but eyewitnesses noted that there were no casualties, except some injuries the driver sustained to his face and legs because his side of the vehicle crashed into the affected buildings. Police from the Sogakofe District Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) later appeared on the scene to tow the truck and picked the driver to the areas police station, the eyewitnesses told The Finder. When contacted via phone, the Sogakofe MTTU Commander, Inspector Antwi, confirmed the accident and mentioned the name of the driver of the Togo truck involved in the accident as Korku Dosoo, aka Alhaji, a native of Nyekornakpoe in Togo. The driver, he said, had been released by the police to access medical care and report to the police later, after his statement was taken.
