Ghanaians Deserve The Right To Know How New NDC Headquarters Was Funded

Director of Ghana Anti-corruption Coalition, Madam Linda Ofori-Kwafo has described the refusal of the General Secretary of the ruling NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia to disclose the cost of his partys ultramodern Headquarters at Adabraka as a violation of the law of political financing. The General Secretary of the ruling NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia at a press conference told the media he is not prepared to disclose the cost of his partys Headquarters to Ghanaians since the media had already speculated $20million dollars as the amount it cost NDC to put up the ultramodern building. Prior to the General Secretarys press conference to claim ownership of the ultramodern building, many NDC stalwarts and Asiedu Nketia himself had denied knowing this same building, saying the ruling party would rather use the said amount to develop the country. But according to the Director, it is wrong on the part of Asiedu Nketia as a General Secretary of the ruling NDC that is seeking for Ghanaians mandate in elections to refuse to be transparent and accountable in the cost of their Headquarters which has generated a lot of controversy. Speaking on Oman FMs Morning Show, Madam Linda Ofori-Kwafo insisted the knowledge of the cost of the building will convince the citizens to entrust the country into their hands as it will serve as a tool for fighting corruption. With the law governing political financing, Madam Linda Ofori-Kwafo said all the political parties are guilty as none of them has ever submitted its statement of accounts to the electoral commission. ..So if Asiedu Nketia says he will not tell us the cost of the building then it is not correct; they have to declare how much it cost them to put up the mansion. Any money that they mobilized towards the building, they should be able to tell us how they got it...a party that hopes to govern the country should make accountability and transparency its trademark. There is a law about political financing and he should not speak as if there is no such law. But the various political parties have been abusing the law; we deserve the right to know how the NDC's new Headquarters was funded, she urged. She however cautioned Ghanaians to look out for a political party that embrace transparency and accountability before giving their mandate to it in elections.
