Ex-Soldier Turns Criminal

Following Todays expos on the criminal activities perpetrated by some officers of Customs Excise Preventive Service (CEPS) on the post of Aflao-Togo border, this paper can report that the criminals have adopted what could be described a Rambo-tactics to rob residents, businessmen and women in the area. Information available to Today indicates that the ring leader of this CEPS cartel (name withheld) is a notorious ex-soldier and a former National Security operative who was alleged to have bought a number of commercial vehicles for his accomplices of which they used to rob the unsuspected individuals who boarded their vehicles. The latest to spill the beans on the criminal activities of the ex-soldier and his accomplices were the residents of Ketu South District together with some businessmen and women who ply their trade on the Afloa, Denu, Agbozome-Abor, Segbe Junction, Dzodze and Akatsi roads in the region. Some of the worried residents and businessmen who spoke to Today via telephone complained bitterly about series of robbery attacks they had encountered at various gun-points by unknown assailants. Those robbery attacks, the residents alleged, were perpetrated by some CEPS officers who worked at the Afloa boarder. The latest heart-breaking incident, the residents recounted, occurred in the midnight on Monday and Tuesday, 18th and 19th, 2014 respectively. According to the residents, that incident had created panic and fear among the residents, particularly businessmen and women, who patronised the Aflao-Togo border. The victims however, did not mention the registration numbers of the vehicles that they were robbed in but the victims suspected foul play by the CEPS and police officers at the Aflao-Togo border for aiding robbers to attack them on the Aflao-Accra highway. The obviously worried residents blamed the National Security for not being proactive in fighting against criminal activities in their communities which had become a safe haven for criminals. They mentioned series of criminal activities in Volta region, particularly in Aflao, Akatsi, Abor, Denu and Dzodze, which they said had happened on the blind side of the national security. It would be recalled that Today reported in its Monday, October 18, 2014 edition that residents of Ketu South together with businessmen and women who patronise the Ghana-Togo border, were living fear following infiltration of some criminals into the Aflao post of CEPS.
