Where Is Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey?

There are some names and people in politics, you cannot just wish away, especially those who have assumed a certain prominence and ascribed to themselves some importance that they do not deserve in the political vacuum created by the men of substance. Jake conveniently had a book written on his behalf in which he was referred to as the Master Strategist. Over the years Jake ascribed to himself the claim of having won for President John Agyekum Kufuor the elections of 2000 and 2004. A lot of people lived with that allusion until President John Kufuor, came out to set the record straight, telling Ghanaians and the whole world that he won both elections on his own strength, experience and merit. In fact President Kufuor, said that he entered politics long before Jake even learnt how to write his name. The only notorious thing that Ghanaians can remember Jake for doing for President Kufuor was in 2004, when he got ahead of himself and announced that elections for President Kufuor, even before the Electoral Commission (EC), the constitutionally mandated body could. When the opportunity came in 2012 for Jake to put the matter of having won the 2000 and 2004 elections for President and consequently putting him to shame, by making sure that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo won that election, he failed to glitter. He rather shamelessly, accused the EC of stealing the 2012 Presidential elections for President John Dramani Mahama. His best solution was to advice and actually connived with Nana Addo, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to go to the Supreme Court, to usurp the will of the people of this country. A man with such a pedigree cannot just vanish out of the political limelight and no questions asked? I will ask them, and I pray to God that someone will tell me where he is hiding. Every deception and lie does not last, it can never stand the test of time, Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey, met his match, when the true test of his popularity and political relevance came under the radar in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital earlier this year, when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) assembled to elect new officers for the party. He was seeking re-election as the party chairman, after having ridden on the back of Nana Addo in 2010, to win that Congress, which was held in Kumasi. Nana Addo got carried away by Jakes persistent claim that he was the man who spearheaded and actually won the presidency for President Kufuor in 2000 and 2004, so he threw his weight behind him, against more capable hands, but it was not to be, as Jake disappointingly led Nana Addo to a more disgraceful and humiliating defeat in the hands of President Mahama. In fact Nana Addos votes dwindled from what he had in 2008. In Tamale, Jake was shown his real size; he got a paltry 66 votes, out of a possible 5000 delegates who cast their votes. Jake, even against the dictates of the party, never hid his support for Nana Addo, like Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, alias Sir John, the former General Secretary, Jake had publicly advocated for the party to give the twice-defeated Presidential candidate a last attempt at the Presidency. Jake even proposed that Nana Addo be allowed to go unopposed, this was the extent to which he was prepared to go, to tell the whole world and show to Nana Addo, how much he loved him. So imagine my surprise that among all the people who could lead Nana Addos campaign for the primary of his party was Sir John, absent in the scheme of things was Jake. If Sir John could be so visible and vocal, to the extent that he was given a position in the campaign, how about Jake? Is it the case of the Chickens coming home to roost, has Nana Addo finally realized that Jake was a disaster from the onset, but got misled by his self aggrandizement. I could say that perhaps, he was taking a break and also seeking the face of God, as Nana Addo did after the Supreme Court verdict, to determine his next cause of action, but for Jake to be conspicuously missing at last Saturdays victory rally at the Childrens Park was inexcusable and cannot be explained away. Where else could he be that is more important than this important gathering to finally raise the hand of his favourite candidate, who is obviously leading the party into another defeat come 2016. I noticed another interesting twist to Jakes vanishing acts; Nana Addo yesterday announced that what was already a foregone conclusion, the nomination of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, as his running mate for the third time running. If there is anything I admire about Nana Addo, it is his unflinching believe in loyalty. The same way the delegates of the party have remained true to him, despite his twice loss, he has also stuck with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. There are obvious maneuvers in the party to have Dr. Bawumia replaced, but he had stuck to his gun and choice. This singular act is something that is missing in contemporary politicians. Jake was once again absent at this historic event of Dr. Bawumias third outdooring. His counterpart and disaster of a General Secretary Sir John on the other hand has been a very good and punctual student, making sure that he avail himself anywhere Nana Addo is, Jake on the other hand has for some inexplicable reasons has absented himself from every event organized by the party for Nana Addo. Jake please where are you?
