Some greedy officials of the under-fire Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG), who are only interested in enriching themselves through fraudulent means, have finally been caught. They steal ECG�s transformers and other equipment belonging to the company, and sell to private individuals. The officials, whose name were given as Eric Yaw Darko, Perfect Ama Agbo and Samuel Kofi Frimpong, are workers of the state power distributing company stationed at Tema, from where they stole the electric transformers worth over US$500, 000 at the Tema EGC Central Stores. The Herald, is reliably informed that, the incident happened somewhere in July this year, and the suspects are currently facing criminal prosecution at the Court, while the rest are said to be at large. The Managing Director of the ECG, Reverend William Hutton Mensah and the ECG Board, has since taken some key security measures, including installing security cameras and the recruitment of a professionally trained security officer to man the store. An Internal memorandum intercepted by The Herald from the Board of Directors of ECG, addressed to the Managing Director, has directed that, �The ECG Attorney on the case should take all necessary steps to speed up the prosecution of the case�. The memo which dated July 31, 2014, and titled �Missing Transformers In Tema� was written and signed by the Board Secretary, Lawrence Osei Kuffour and copied to the Board Chairman, as well as the Board Members. The memo said, �The Board of Directors, at its meeting on 30th July 2014, considered the case of missing transformers in Tema and directed that, the case should be published in the papers with pictures of the persons involved�. According to the Board�s directive, �The ECG Attorney on the case should take all necessary steps to speed up the prosecution of the case�. The Board, has also directed that, �CCTV cameras should be installed at the Company�s stores�, adding that �the cameras should be networked and accessible to the Managing Director�. Some workers of the company, who spoke with The Herald on condition of anonymity, have hinted that the issue was widespread and happening in most regional and district stores of the ECG. But it is unclear, which measures management would take to arrest and prosecute the rest of the transformer thieves, meters and other equipment stealing syndicates, whose names The Herald is fishing out.
